Disney Store Singing Sofia The First Doll

If you have kids that watch cartoons you've probably heard of Sofia the First on Disney Junior.  I love this show.  I started watching it with my grandson and now I watch new episodes every Friday morning whether he's with me or not.  It's the cutest story of a girl from a village - Sofia - who's mother marries a king.  The King of Enchancia.  Sofia has to learn all about being a princess.  She's very kind but doesn't have much confidence at first.  But the King gives her a magic amulet necklace that gives her the ability to talk to animals and she slowly learns everything she needs to know.

The TV show is nearly a year old now and has a big following of young girls in the 2-8 year old range.  I've seen Sofia the First merchandise everywhere.  I ordered the Sofia Singing doll from the Disney Store Online.  She's a 12" tall doll with a huge head (I love big headed dolls).  As you can see her color palette is a light purple. Some of the quotes written on the box are "gifted and gracious" and "manners are enchanting".  There are also graphics of her animal friends.  Her character really has a sweet personality.

She doesn't come with a stand or any accessories and because of her huge head she doesn't stand by herself.  Quite top heavy.  But she's for girls ages 3+ and little girls probably don't worry about standing up their dolls anyway.   Her articulation is limited, her head swivels side to side, she has standard shoulder and hip joints, and her elbows and wrists swivel in all directions.

A brush would have been nice - Sofia has lots of beautiful curly hair. It comes in a hair net that's held on by plastic tabs which can be cut out.   The front curls are tied in loops at the bangs and full of hair product.  I left them tied for now but the doll picture online shows them taken out.  Her plastic tiara is also held on with plastic tabs which I didn't remove.  You can also see her magic amulet pendant she always wears around her neck.  She promised her father the King of Enchancia she would never take it off.

Sofia's eyes are large with painted blue irises and black lashes.  Her teeth are showing in her smile.

Sophia the First wears a long purple gown with white dots and big flower like circle shapes around the bottom. It's got a peplum style skirt and a white slip underneath.  The dress is all one piece and closes in the back with Velcro.  It's very easy to dress and undress her.

And she's got flat color coordinating shoes.  Her knees do not bend at all by the way.

One of the main features of this particular Sofia the First doll is she sings the theme song from the TV show.  She requires 3 small LR44/AG13 batteries.  They are the silver disc shaped ones.  She comes equipped with them but eventually like all batteries they will need replacing.  They fit in her torso.

There is a switch on her side that can be set in On, Off, and Try Me modes.  The Try Me setting just plays the first line of the song.  Here is a clip of the tune she sings.

Finally I took her hair out of the hairnet.  The curls are long and bouncy and very soft.  Still haven't taken out the bangs or tiara.  She's just too cute with them.

The Disney Store Sofia the First Singing Doll is an adorable play doll for young girls.  She's not a fashion doll like I typically collect and I'll probably eventually sell her but right now I'm enjoying having her with me as I sit and watch every new episode of the Sofia the First cartoon on Disney Junior.
